Understanding Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a condition characterized by an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine, often appearing as an “S” or “C” shape when viewed from behind. It affects approximately 3% of the population and most commonly develops during the growth spurt just before puberty. However, scoliosis can also develop in adults due to degenerative changes, osteoporosis, or as a result of previous spinal injuries. Symptoms vary widely depending on the severity of the curve and can include uneven shoulders or hips, visible spinal curvature, back pain, muscle fatigue, and in severe cases, breathing difficulties.

While chiropractic care cannot permanently reverse structural scoliosis, it plays a critical role in managing symptoms and improving quality of life.
